Restore Swindon's heritage buildings for the new Art Gallery and Museum.
Outnumbered on BBC Wiltshire, but at least a bit of coverage
Swindon Art Gallery Action Group
6 nov 2017 —
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05jg5fy I was invited to give a short interview on Friday at BBC Wiltshire -- being the last of 6 or 7 interviews with pro-newbuild SMAG people. I would have liked time to: - mention the Save Swindon's Heritage site - point out how the renovation of the Carriage Works looks to be less expensive than the vast sums that pro-SMAG team have claimed: a look at the whole site size and the cost of the current work done (£1million to date, looking great) suggest £12-15 million in total, possibly doable in smaller stages. This is far more in keeping with the total £10 million cost for the Carriage Works I had been told had been discussed in the 90s as a museum and art gallery location. -emphasise how the the vastness and co-existence of the CW would make it far more sustainable that the SMAG building. Are we really going to make enough to sustain a new-build SMAG with yet another coffee shop and restaurant? Hardly! For those who listened to the heartfelt arguments from the Olive Tree Cafe and Twigs earlier that morning, in a plethora of interviews Backing the Bid, but which included none against it , I would also point out that more space in the CW would mean even more opportunities for needy people. With several people close to me with Special Needs, job opportunities for those people is a cause close to my own heart. It is a low blow from the Back the Bid team to imply that a heritage-build would not offer similar -- or better opportunities. As ever, thanks for the support and please do continue to plug this petition, Ana
