Stop the potential Traveller site in Hannibal Way (Roundshaw Open Spaces)

The Issue

1. We do not want a travellers site to replace the Sutton Common Rovers Colts Pavilion that provides football for over 100 adults & 200 children (currently playing football for the club) and also many more children and adults that book council pitches using the pavilion facility. The pavilion also provides a home to the South London Pirates Baseball team who play home matches through the summer and hold the largest UK baseball tournament every year. This effectively would make the football club homeless and take away all the above mentioned sports users of Roundshaw Open Spaces. 2. This will also massively effect local residents houses on the Roundshaw Estate (especially after the trouble caused with the Traveller incursion into Roundshaw Open Spaces last year) this lead to vandalism of people's property and of the park area which cost the council over £25,000 to clear up. The main two properties effected would be the two houses at the top of Hannibal Way as they would effectively be next door to the proposed site with a potential financial loss on the price of their property if they wished to sell. 3. We also do not want the loss of local businesses such as the various businesses on the local industrial estate off Hannibal Way Road (who have already suffered from theft and damage to their property when travellers have set up in the area previously). Virgin Active would also lose most of their members as the proposal would mean that their members would have to directly drive through the traveller site to enter the facility and Power League on Hannibal Way Road have also previously experienced illegal access to their facility when the travellers have been near by. 4. Wilsons School is very close to the proposed site and surely to put a traveller site next to a school will again effect people's decision to send pupils to what is currently a very highly rated school in the Borough. 5) Extra traffic will also be put on Stafford Road that currently at times now struggles to deal with the current traffic of people commuting into Croydon or Wallington. Also Hannibal Way itself is often a difficult road for access at the top end where the site is being proposed, so to put in a traveller site will make it almost impossible to get in and out of this road causing a gridlock of traffic for all the businesses already mentioned and the local residents. 6. The expected cost quoted to put in this proposed traveller site is in excess of 1 million pounds of which the council currently has no funding for. So who would be paying for this??? Us the residents. We are already facing a hike in our council tax would they do it again or would they cut some other vital service. Surely this proposal needs to be stopped and other more suitable sites need to be found.
