Save the Cryer for community theatre

We call upon Sutton Council to find a way to keep Carshalton's Cryer Theatre open for use by community theatre groups.
For more than a hundred years Sutton has enjoyed a vigorous, talented, abundant and popular community drama and musical scene. Until recently the Borough has benefited from two good theatres but now we are in danger of losing both of them, unless urgent action is taken. They, together with their public hall pre-cursors, have been where thousands of local actors, including Noël Coward, Jack Warner and Leslie Howard, have performed to audiences of possibly millions since the beginning of the 20th century. In them over the years, a great many people, both young and old, have been introduced to the joys and challenges of the theatre, while the public has been entertained and educated.
If the London Borough of Sutton is not to lose its unique theatrical heritage and excellence for ever, it is vital that we save at least the Charles Cryer Theatre in Carshalton. With the closure of the Fairfield Halls, there are now very few specialist performance spaces in South London. So it's doubly important to retain the Cryer to keep professional and amateur theatre alive in our area.
Please sign this petition now to show the Council the strength and breadth of support for local community theatre.
