NEWS: ‘Gayle’s Law’ introduced to SA Parliament

This is a huge step forward — the SA Government just announced they’ll introduce legislation for ‘Gayle’s Law’ to protect remote area nurses from violent attacks and stop them from working alone. It makes SA the first state to respond to our campaign and act on nurse safety. This is a bitter sweet moment for all us nurses, as well as our dear Gayle’s family. Yesterday, the man who viciously raped, assaulted and murdered our colleague Gayle Woodford, was finally sentenced to life in prison. Gayle’s husband Keith, stepped outside of the court to pledge his support to our campaign to ensure no rural nurse attends a call-out on their own. These were his words: "I will do whatever is necessary to apply public pressure on governments, health authorities to implement Gayle's Law.
