UPDATE:

In response to the Australians article 13/6/16 "Remote Nurses to get 1.5m Safety funding" while acknowledging this is a positive outcome for this particular location,  in terms of addressing Nurses Safety and in particular Remote Area Nurse (RAN) Safety, the issues are not Isolated to South Australia, but are in fact wide spread across the country. RANs are still looking for National Leadership, Guidance and support, and believe, if left to the States, the disparity and inequality will continue. Having met with Minister Nash and in keeping in touch with her office, we have been advised that after our meeting in April, Senator Nash requested a reconvening of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) "Remote Health Care Committee" to look at addressing the issues on a National level. The Senator’s office has also been in touch, and working with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO). While there have been many positive changes to security policies and plans across remote Australia, there has been just as much inaction, leaving staff feeling threatened, vulnerable and alone. Nothing has yet been set in writing; we need a commitment to keeping us safe in our workplace. Please keep circulating the petition and asking your local ministers and state health ministers for following: "What are you doing about keeping our health care workers safe? Especially the RANs out in remote areas with the least access to support "?? Thank you.
