Hello 👋

Thankyou for signing my petition and taking action for the people of Palestine. Today, I sent an email to the IFSC, asking them to suspend Israel from competition, not only as an ethical stance, but because they are in breach of IFSC Values and Principles. It would be powerful if you were able to do the same, either using my text (below) or your own.

Thanks, Jenny

Dear IFSC,

I call on you to suspend Israel from international competition until it ends its military occupation of Palestine and complies with international humanitarian law. These actions mean Israel is not adhering to the Values and Principles outlined in the IFSC statute.

In section 5 of the statute, (values and principles) the IFSC states that "it shall perform its activities according to the highest ethical standards and shall require compliance with such standards from its National Federations'. In particular it references adopting the values of the Olympic Charter some of which include a commitment to peace and the respect of International Human Rights.

Amnesty International and UN officials have documented the use of starvation as a weapon of war, indiscriminate bombing in densely populated areas, and denial of humanitarian aid in Gaza—all violations of international law and serious breaches of human rights. Over a million Gazans now face famine conditions as a direct result.

The statute also notes a commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The actions that Israel has taken in Gaza are in direct opposition to these, reducing outcomes of all these goals for Palestinians.

Further reasons for suspension are detailed in Diem25's 2023 address to IFSC, also asking for Israel's suspension.

Like many, I feel powerless in the face of these atrocities and have been searching for a way to take action. I am a keen climber and watcher of comps and believe that sports boycotts can be a powerful tool for action.

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) must uphold the integrity of sport by refusing to allow states that commit severe human rights violations to participate in international competitions.

I ask you to urgently take a clear stand against the humanitarian crimes and occupation of Palestine by refusing Israel participation in international climbing competitions until a resolution is reached.

Many others stand with me on this and have signed the follow petition:

You have an opportunity to be on the right side of history here, please use it.

Thankyou,
