Decision Maker Response

Maneka Gandhi’s response

Dec 24, 2016 — Dear People,

I am pleased to inform you that new rules for obtaining passports have been announced by the Ministry of External Affairs which will make it much easier for children of single parents to apply for passports.

These rules were notified based on the recommendations of a three-member Committee comprising of the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

This committee was set up after I forwarded Priyanka Gupta’s petition on Change.org to the Minister of External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj and asked her to get the necessary modifications done.

Based on the committee's recommendations rules have also been simplified for children who are adopted, orphaned or born out of wedlock.

I welcome the Ministry of External Affairs decision to simplify the rules and appreciate their cooperation with the Ministry of Women and Child Development. I also appreciate all of you who supported the petition on Change.org and brought it to my notice.

I would like you to remain updated about the work done by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Please follow us on twitter @ministrywcd and @manekagandhibjp. Please also follow us on our Facebook page facebook.com/manekagandhiofficial & facebook.com/ministrywcd

Thank you,

Maneka Sanjay Gandhi
