By means of a tweet, RBI today announced their new app MANI that will help blind people identify currency. It is really sad to see that RBI came up with this app without enough background research. A large section of blind people in India do not have access to smart phones.

The blind cannot hold their white canes, cash and phone at the same time while standing on roads and also hear the audio output from the app to determine the currency in noisy environments.
We need a solution that solves the problem of currency identification in real life. Currency of different shapes and sizes is the real solution and we hope RBI stops focusing on unrealistic aids like MANI.
