#SaveLSRD
THANK YOU ALL so much for weighing in on this critical issue!
A 5,000-page draft report was released today by the federal government. It confirmed that the lower Snake River dams (LSRD) are critical to the region's clean and equitable energy future!
It calls out the damage that dam breaching would do significant harm to communities and to the region's ability to meet its clean energy goals.
Without the dams in place it could cost an extra $1 billion a year just in electricity-related costs and raise customer electric bills by 20% or more. It would also double the likelihood of region-wide blackouts.
These outcomes would be particularly devastating to vulnerable communities across the Northwest that cannot afford backup generation or other forms of clean electricity.
The report offers other ways to help endangered fish populations that don't require the destruction of critical infrastructure. Salmon are critically important to our identity as a region and especially to the culture of the Northwest's Native American tribes. My organization is working collaboratively to address some of the ways that we can help salmon and orcas.
While the federal report is very conclusive, there are many groups that will not see it that way and will urge the agencies to change their position on breaching. We encourage you to CONTINUE TO MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD!
Please keep sharing the petition. Also, we hope that you will participate in the public comment process over the next 45 days.
We will be launching a page on our website with additional information early next week at www.nwriverpartners.org
Thank you again for your support of #SaveLSRD!
