Dear Medical Blacklisting Prevention Act Supporters,

Two stories this week show why the Medical Blacklisting Prevention Act is urgently needed.

In Northwest Indiana, a woman in her 70s has been denied dialysis at every outpatient facility in her region — not because of her medical condition, but because she reported being assaulted at a clinic. Her daughter Kandice, one of our earliest signers, has been fighting hard for a long time for her mother. Three times a week her mother gets up, travels to a hospital emergency room, and waits hours for life-saving dialysis treatment she should be receiving at an outpatient clinic near her home. This is not acceptable. This is not care. This is punishment for speaking up. Her elderly, ill mother should not have to do this. She deserves safe, consistent, dignified treatment close to home — and she is being denied it in retaliation for reporting harm. It is awful. It is wrong. And it has to stop.

In Vancouver, Washington, Kaiser Permanente is facing lawsuits from over 100 victims of a pediatrician who died by suicide the day after being charged with child molestation. The allegation: Kaiser knew, and covered it up to protect their reputation. The records that could have stopped this were suppressed. Patients — many of them children — paid the price for years.

In both cases the pattern is the same: a patient reports harm, the institution protects itself, and the records — the ones that should trigger accountability — disappear or get weaponized instead.

The Medical Blacklisting Prevention Act would require transparency in exactly these situations. It would make shadow records visible. It would give patients the legal tools to fight back before they are denied care, committed, or simply worn down into silence.
