I have some exciting news from both the United States Senate Vietnam Veterans of America.
On April 29, 2026, the Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 705 (SR 705), honoring the Vietnam Donut Dollies. The resolution commends the Vietnam Donut Dollies for their patriotic service and steadfast support of U.S. servicemembers in combat, while recognizing their extraordinary contributions to the morale and well-being of American troops during wartime.
The resolution was sponsored by Senator Thomas Tillis (R–NC), with co-sponsorship from Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D–NY), Christopher Coons (D–DE), and John Boozman (R–AR). The full text of SR 705 can be found on Congress.gov by searching for “SR 705, 119th Congress.”
This resolution is an important milestone because it helps educate members of Congress about the remarkable service and sacrifice of the 627 women who voluntarily served in Vietnam with the American Red Cros and were know affectionately by the troops there as Donut Dollies. Historically, Senate resolutions have often served as a first step toward broader congressional recognition. For example, a Senate resolution helped pave the way for the women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion to receive the Congressional Gold Medal.
I am also deeply honored to report that the Vietnam Veterans of America has decided to recognize the Vietnam Donut Dollies with honorary memberships. This heartfelt gesture further demonstrates the profound impact these women had on the troops they served in Vietnam and the enduring gratitude that continues to this day.
As efforts continue to secure a Congressional Gold Medal for the Vietnam Donut Dollies, it is essential that members of Congress hear directly from their constituents. Congressional support is critical to advancing this important legislation.
The bill in the House of Representatives is currently without a lead sponsor following the election of former Representative Mikie Sherrill as Governor of New Jersey. I have been working with Representative Chrissy Houlahan’s office to encourage her to assume this leadership role, given her longstanding support for the legislation and for Vietnam veterans.
If you are a constituent of Representative Houlahan, please consider contacting her office and urging her to champion this legislation by becoming its lead sponsor. Let her know that you support recognizing the service and sacrifices of the Vietnam Donut Dollies and honoring the contributions they made to our nation and its veterans.
Support from citizens across the country can make a meaningful difference. Together, we can help ensure that these remarkable women receive the national recognition they have earned and so richly deserve for their dedicated service to our country.
