Update - and a request
On Wednesday, our representatives are scheduled to meet with SOMSD, which will be represented by Dr. Taylor and the District’s attorneys.
If you support our efforts on behalf of SOMSD’s children, please take 2 minutes this weekend to email Dr. Taylor (rtaylor@somsd.k12.nj.us) and the Board of Education (boemembers@somsd.k12.nj.us) and request that the District agree to:
1. Establish minimum requirements for synchronous (live) learning for so long as public health keeps our schools closed;
2. Ensure that all children with IEPs receive the services and instruction to which they are entitled; and
3. Provide our teachers with the support, including structural and technical resources, that they require to maximize student growth and learning to the greatest extent possible for the duration of the public health crisis.
This has been a tremendously difficult week for our country. I sincerely hope that regardless of where this finds you, you are safe, healthy and comfortably situated. Whatever the scope of the challenges we face, however slow our progress seems, remember Dr. King’s words:
“Lightning makes no sound until it strikes.”
Collective action can make a difference — indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
