UPDATE: A Decision Was Made

It seems this petition is due for one final update.

What began as a request to reconsider the restrictions surrounding recreational use of Sulphur Creek grew to 700 supporters who believed this beautiful natural resource should once again be available for our community to enjoy.

And those voices were heard.

On November 12, 2024, the Lampasas City Council voted unanimously to rescind the ordinances that prohibited swimming and fishing in portions of Sulphur Creek.

During the City's review, it was determined that Sulphur Creek is a navigable waterway owned by the State of Texas. The City ultimately chose to take a neutral position regarding recreational use of the creek, with individuals using the creek at their own risk.

To each of the 700 people who signed this petition, shared it, followed the discussion, attended meetings, or simply helped bring attention to the issue — thank you.

This was about more than swimming or fishing. It was about Sulphur Creek, its place in the history of Lampasas, and preserving the opportunity for future generations to enjoy one of the natural treasures running through the heart of our community.
