Letter Sent To Phoenix VA Administrator and Chief of Staff: May 28th, 2015.
To Glen W. Grippen
Interim Medical Center Director
Phoenix VA Health Care System
Phoenix, Arizona
(602) 222-6444
Dr. Grippen:
How many Veterans must die before your excuses stop? How many dead Veterans must be found in the parking lot before your nonsense ends? How many Veterans must continue to endure sub-quality care from your sub-par system before you address the deficiencies of your "hospital?"
When did knowledge become the enemy of our caregivers? We are talking about a lecture only to medical personnel, correct? What are you scared of . . . Knowledge? There is absolutely nothing illegal about Dr. Sisley talking to fellow Doctors about her federally approved study. Dr. Grippen, such activity is protected under the 1st amendment of our constitution—otherwise known as "freedom of speech."
With a low estimate of 22 Veterans killing themselves every day, one would think those responsible for our well being would be open to new ideas—specifically federally approved studies designed to shed light on the safety and efficacy of a non-toxic plant. God forbid we have an open mind. Your "hospital" is firmly in the lead to be remembered as the prime example of the VA’s systemic national failure.
That is our issue, you and your fellows have failed us, and you continue to fail Veterans on an epic level. Given the spotlight your facility has been under, denying an educational opportunity to your medical staff on how they might be able to better serve Veterans seems foolish. To quote the beloved and wonderful diplomat Charles A. Ray: “When people are allowed to freely explore and exchange ideas, they are personally strengthened, and their collective impact strengthens the nation.”
You sir, have a choice to make: Allow the free flow of ideas between medical personnel, or face the ire of thousands of Veterans who are in this fight for the long run to protect their Brothers and Sisters.
It is your choice Dr.Grippen; we sincerely hope you do the right thing.
With all due respect,
Ricardo Pereyda
