Support of Parse-Server to Production-Ready Quality Level Before Shutdown
The Issue
Parse offered an abundance of highly-documented, useful features which are difficult to find as a single bundle in competing offerings. I highly doubt I am the only developer who feels stranded and disappointed. As a result, Facebook's reputation amongst developers is tarnished, and while Parse shutting down is tragic, I see it as an opportunity for the community to develop a rock-solid, self-hostable open source BaaS (based on the Parse Platform) and end reliance on services that could shut down at any moment. Facebook in support of such a design would have a lasting positive impact on the development community.
It's understandable that these things happen, and that being a good developer means being able to adapt to the changes in the industry, but I see this as a great opportunity to improve upon the available toolset developers have and implement the ingenious work of the Parse engineers and developers.
- We ask that Facebook allocate the necessary resources for the Parse team to maintain the full feature set offered in Parse through the open source Parse-Server.
- Furthermore, we ask that it is developed alongside the community to a production quality standard before Parse officially shuts down on January 28th, 2017.
- Finally, we ask that all related documentation in regards to the Parse SDK's and API stay freely available.
