The Issue

When I was sexually assaulted, I felt voiceless and powerless. The fear and pain were suffocating, and I couldn’t find the strength to speak up. But now, I choose to speak—not just for myself, but for countless others who remain unheard. This is our reality, and it has to change.

Silence often engulfs victims of sexual assault, regardless of gender. Many, like me, are unable to speak out, trapped by shame, fear, or societal judgment. Statistics show that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men in the United States will experience an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN). However, due to underreporting, these numbers may only scratch the surface of a deeper issue.

Our justice system must evolve to protect and empower victims. Currently, too many barriers exist for survivors seeking justice. From victim-blaming narratives to insufficient support structures, the challenges to accessing justice are profound. To make a significant impact, we must advocate for legislative changes that ensure justice for all victims, increase funding for survivor support services, and implement comprehensive educational programs on consent and respect from an early age.

Moreover, there needs to be a push for a national registry of offenders, better training for law enforcement on handling cases sensitively, and the provision of anonymous reporting options to make it easier for survivors to come forward without fear of retribution.

Let us eradicate the silence surrounding sexual assault by joining together in this movement. Every signature helps break the cycle of silence and strengthens the call for change.

Please sign this petition to ensure that justice serves as a beacon of hope for all victims of sexual assault. Together, we can amplify the voices that have been silenced for too long. This is not just my voice—it can be yours as well. Let’s make sure no one else has to suffer in silence.
