Last night’s MSFI Committee meeting went as well as could be expected! The overall reception to our project proposal was very positive. Several council members spoke in favor of the Wheelock dog park plan, as did many Dog Park FB members/petition supporters (a big thanks to all of those who were able to make it and show their support)!
While the site hasn’t been officially approved (the plan needs to be sent to a full City Council meeting to be voted on), we’ve been asked to work with Keene Parks and Rec to put together a more detailed plan, including finding a non-profit fiscal sponsor, forming a volunteer committee and creating a comprehensive project cost estimate. Once we’ve completed these steps we’ll return to the MSFI Committee and hopefully have the project put on a full City Council agenda for official site approval!
Our volunteer committee, “Friends of Keene Dog Park”, will be very similar to how the majority of dog parks operate. This is basically a group of dedicated community members who are able to volunteer their time to help with the next steps in the project. We will need individuals to help with: Fundraising, Site Plan Development, Social Media updates/appeals and Organizing Volunteer Maintenance/Work days (once the park is up and running).
