The Duggan family was thrown into panic and distress last week, when the Australian Federal Police wrongly issued an order to transport Dan to Sydney for extradition to the US.
Dan was told to pack up his cell because he was being sent to Long Bay in Sydney to be handed over the Federal Police.
The order directly contravened public promises from Canberra that Dan would remain in custody in Australia until his case was heard and dealt with in the Federal Court. Last month, the Government issued a statement to media:
“Mr Duggan remains in extradition custody and will not be surrendered pending the outcome of the court proceeding,” they said. “As the matter is currently before the Federal Court of Australia, it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
After about six hours of severe distress last week, Dan was finally told it was all a big mistake.
Was this deliberate intimidation of an Australian citizen, or just another incompetent error by the Federal Police in this matter?
Either way, it is one in a long list of errors and misinformation associated with Dan's case which has already seen him locked in maximum security for 28 months with no local charges for doing his job as a flight instructor.
Please help the Duggan family fight for justice and get Dan home by making a donation towards their Federal Court appeal: https://chuffed.org/project/109154-dan-duggan-extradition-legal-fund
