The Resolution Has Made it to City Council for Consideration!!

Dear Friends and Supporters, 

Our work is paying off! After all these months of meetings and conversations, research and writing, we now find ourselves well-positioned at City Hall to move this Initiative forward and make it reality.

Thanks in large part to the efforts of East Austin Creative Coalition working with Mayor Pro Tem Natasha Harper-Madison and her staff, our draft resolution is now being vetted in Council members' and the Mayor's Office, and with Senior Staff in the appropriate Departments. 

At this point it seems entirely possible that we are on the verge of doing something significant and lasting for the good of Austin, for African American Arts and Culture in Austin, and specifically for Central East Austin. Our proposal to the City to make real and sustainable investment in the African American Cultural Heritage District—and to BUILD A PROFESSIONAL MUSIC-BASED CULTURAL ARTS CENTER—has real traction and support. This can happen!

If you are receiving this, you've already shown us support in this work. And please know how much we greatly appreciate that. Yes, we are now asking for your help again. It's timely.

On this Friday April 23 we are to meet with the Mayor's Office, Mayor Pro Tem Harper-Madison, Council members, and Senior Departmental Staffers to comb through our draft resolution to work on getting it ready for City Council agenda placement soon.

Right now we have close to 2000 signatures on this petition. Our goal right now is to keep adding as many new signatures as possible before that meeting happens in two days.

Will you help us one more time? Please spread the word again. 2500 signatures would look mighty fine on Friday.
