The Issue

The mounting problem of plastic waste is not just a global environmental crisis; it's a pressing issue for our school community as well. Each year, we are part of the staggering figures that show over 300 million tons of plastic produced worldwide, half of which is single-use, contributing extensively to landfills and oceanic pollution.

At our school, plastic waste is becoming increasingly unmanageable, and it’s up to us to catalyze change. By focusing on research and development of bioplastics—materials derived from renewable biomass sources—we can significantly contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and setting a precedent for others in the region. Bioplastics not only decompose faster than traditional plastics, reducing landfill burden, but also emit fewer greenhouse gases during production.

Our current recycling and waste management strategies require substantial improvement. Recent studies suggest that only about 9% of the world's plastics are recycled. This alarming statistic highlights the need for our school to advance initiatives focused on responsible plastic use and waste separation tactics. Schools play a pivotal role in shaping future generations, and our effort can inspire not just our students, but also educational institutions across the country.

We urge our school leaders to commit to initiatives that promote bioplastics research, incorporate eco-friendly products in school operations, and implement effective waste management solutions. Measures such as integrating bioplastics into our school supply chain, organizing educational workshops on environmental awareness, and establishing a robust recycling program can catalyze this change.

Your support is crucial in leading our school toward a sustainable future. By signing this petition, you commit to reducing our reliance on single-use plastics, supporting cutting-edge research into bioplastics, and encouraging responsible waste management practices. Together, we can nurture a healthier planet for future generations and create a template for sustainable living
