FINAL CALL: Make sure your support is counted
Submissions for the revised Waterfront all-weather field proposal close tomorrow, Tuesday 6 October 2026.
Opponents of the field are now arguing:
“A petition supporting the fields is not a substitute for a formal submission.”
On that point, they are right.
More than 1,750 people have signed this petition in support of the all-weather fields. That support matters, but your petition signature is not recorded as a formal submission on the revised Waterfront proposal.
There is another important point:
If you lodged a submission back in February supporting the original DA, it does not carry over to the revised application.
Council is now considering a separate review application, REV/2026/0005. For your support to be considered in this review, you must lodge a new submission now.
It only takes a few minutes. Your submission can be just one or two sentences explaining why you support the revised proposal.
You could mention:
- The need for a reliable all-weather field for local players and the wider community
- The training sessions and matches lost when grass fields close after rain
- The strengthened flood protections in the revised design
- The growing participation of juniors, girls and women
- The role reliable community sporting facilities play in tackling youth loneliness by giving young people regular opportunities for connection, belonging and shared purpose
- The importance of completing the two-field commitment for Callan Park
Please make it personal and select “Support” in the Sentiment Metric.
Opponents are using the gap between petition signatures and formal submissions to question the strength of community support for the field.
The answer is simple: make sure your support is formally counted.
If you have already lodged a submission specifically for this revised DA, thank you. Please share this petition with teammates, friends and local families, and ask them to make a submission too.
Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t assume your petition signature or earlier submission is enough.
Please do it now.
