Support Africa's bid for a permanent UN seat
The Issue
I believe that Africa deserves the opportunity to be a permanent member of the United Nations. Africa is often at the center of discussions involving global issues, especially those related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). When we consider global poverty, gender equality challenges, and the lack of infrastructure, Africa is often disproportionately affected.
Historically, the continent’s voice in international matters has been underrepresented, despite being a region rich in diversity and potential. African nations face unique challenges that require tailored solutions, and having a permanent seat at the UN would provide the platform needed to advocate directly for policies that reflect the continent's needs and aspirations.
Currently, the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council do not include any African nation, yet Africa consists of 54 nations with over 1.3 billion people, which is nearly 17% of the world's population. This absence not only undermines the principles of equal representation but also marginalizes the very voices that need to be heard the most in crises impacting the continent and beyond.
I call upon leaders from around the world, especially African leaders, to champion this cause that is allowing the African Union to be granted a permanent UNSC seat. With effective representation in international policy decisions, African countries can actively contribute to global peacekeeping, security, and sustainable development, creating a balanced world where decisions truly mirror global diversity.
Join us in this important endeavor for equality and justice on a global stage. Sign this petition to support African Union's rightful place as a permanent member of the UN, ensuring decisions affecting millions are made not only for Africa but with Africa.
