Tell Supervisor Cook and the FCDOT that we demand action against cut-through traffic.

The Issue

According to a recent VDOT traffic study, more than 950 commuter vehicles cut through the Truro Community on any given weekday morning between 6:45a and 9:15a. The study verified that this volume is significantly more than what should be tolerated and recommends FCDOT take measures to remedy this issue. The VDOT recommendation contained in this report is to create a continuous right-turn lane at the Guinea Road and Little River Turnpike intersection, allowing traffic to freely flow right onto Little River Turnpike without stopping at the stop light at this intersection. This would decrease the queue time at the light, thereby minimizing the need for commuters to cut through the neighborhood. We believe this approach, combined with a Right Turn restriction from Guinea Rd onto Elizabeth Ln and a Left Turn restriction from Elizabeth Ln onto Old Hickory Rd will significantly reduce, if not eliminate, the cut-through traffic that is affecting our neighborhood.

The elevated speed and failure to stop at posted stop signs makes this traffic a significant safety risk to the residents of the Truro Community. This route is regularly used by neighborhood children during this time to walk to school and without a remedy it may only be a matter of time before there is a critical injury or worse.

We implore Supervisor Cook and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation to take the necessary actions and implement the VDOT recommendations for the taxpayers and voting public of the Truro Community.
