ANCYL WC calls for the immediate suspension of Naas Botha and Nick Mallet from Supersport pending further investigation.

As a product of the daily struggles of young black people of the Western Cape, the Youth League is extremely proud of the bravery expressed by former Springbok rugby star Ashwin Willemse yesterday as he took racism head on in the Supersport studio, for all South Africans to see, that sadly racism is alive and well in SA rugby.

Willemse's actions yesterday has confirmed our long-held view the he is an ardent champion of real transformation in sport in general and rugby in particular. The undermining paternalism shown towards him by former apartheid rugby players, Nick Mallet and Naas Botha is something that black youth face on a daily basis in the Western Cape in interactions with white counterparts in all spheres of life.

We thank Ashwin for giving our youth the courage to stand up to all forms of white arrogance.

The Youth League supports the call by our Minister of Sports  Thokozile Xasa for Supersport to immediately suspsend Mallet and Botha pending an investigation.

We call on leaders in Sports and Business to stand by Ashwin, by coming out publicly in calling for Naas Botha and Nick Mallet to be removed from SuperSport immediately.
