Thank you everyone for you support so far! Please keep sharing

I have done some research following posting our petition and have discovered that at present, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Ocado offer their customers the opportunity to donate online when they do their grocery shopping.

Ocado in particular have a brilliant scheme whereby customers can add set amount donation, starting at £2.50, which will be matched by Ocado and distributed to their community partners working in foodbanks, social enterprises and charities in the form of required goods or finance. This is capped at £25,000 per week.

As Tescos is the biggest grocery retailer in the UK, it seems they could have a great impact by following suit with their competitors who already offer an online donation opportunity for customers.

If Tesco had a 'donate to food bank' option available for customers, there would be a significant increase in donations received,  as well as a lot of happy customers enabled. Tescos has supported The Trussle group for years and already donates 20% in finance on top of in-store donations. This is one step further for them in supporting people in need.

A petition with the same aim as this one, created by Caroline Macdonald in 2017, achieved over 45,000 signatures. It is clear that this is an opportunity that customers wish to have, and indeed is even more vital given the current Covid-19 situation and the increase in the uptake of Universal Credit, rising unemployment and failure of adequate provision by the government for those experiencing financial hardship.

Thanks once again for supporting this important cause
