We have unfinished business for the animals.
Two years ago, we mobilised hundreds of Co-op members to sign a motion calling on Co-op to adopt the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) - a welfare standard that would dramatically improve the lives of its chickens.
What happened next was inspiring: 96% of voting members voted in favour of the motion at last year's Co-op AGM.
But then Co-op bosses let everybody down. They committed to giving their chickens more space (one element of the BCC) while ignoring an incredibly important piece: ending the use of cruelly-bred Frankenchickens who have suffering coded into their DNA.
[CO-OP MEMBER? HELP FINISH THIS]
Angry? Me too.
That motion achieved something huge for animals: more space for millions of chickens, major newspaper stories, and massive pressure on the Co-op.
But while Co-op bosses continue to sell Frankenchickens, you and I have unfinished business. We cannot let them ignore our voices and go on inflicting suffering on millions of sensitive, intelligent animals.
It's time to finish the job for animals. But we need you.
We want to submit a motion to Co-op's 2025 AGM focused solely on ending their cruel use of Frankenchickens.
To submit the motion, we need 100 qualified Co-op members to sign it.
If you're a Co-op member, will you take three minutes to check if you can be one of these 100 crucial signatures?
Not a Co-op member?
Please don't worry if you're not able to help this time. There are still six months to go until Co-op's 2025 AGM (when motions are voted on) and we're planning to keep the pressure up big time. For that, we'll need the help of animal lovers like you, so keep an eye out for more actions soon.
I'm so excited about this opportunity to win a victory for millions of animals. Thank you for being here with us.
For the animals,
Katie Ferneyhough, Head of Programs at The Humane League UK
