Petition updateSupermarkets: Stop Selling Suffering!Lidl wants to bury these images - let’s not let them

Hi everyone,

Lidl and its supplier are trying to bury the truth.

Two weeks ago, Open Cages published shocking footage captured by a former chicken farm worker. On a Lincolnshire farm supplying Lidl, chickens were being routinely run over and crushed to death during transport.

This disgraceful abuse was so damning that the supplier company threatened major broadcasters with legal action if they published it.

Lidl also denied its links to the farms or the company. But despite indisputable evidence showing chicken from this company on sale in a great number of its stores, Lidl still refuses to take any responsibility.

If things go on like this, Lidl will continue to wriggle out of taking action. Will you take a few minutes to help ensure that doesn't happen?

Today, we are holding nearly 30 protests at Lidl stores nationwide. Support those actions right now by taking three quick actions from home:

1. Send a tweet now

Last time we did this we got the hashtag #LidlChickenScandal trending! We can do it again and put some serious pressure on Lidl.

2. Call Lidl’s customer service number and file a complaint

Call Lidl now: 0203 966 5566

When on the line, please press ‘6’ for a direct connection with a consultant.

Let them know that until Lidl signs the Better Chicken Commitment you will no longer shop with them. Watch the footage here to remind yourself what was discovered.

PS - if you've already called, please call again. We must show them that we won't give up after one phone call. We demand action!

3. Sign our petition demanding action from Lidl

By adding your name to the petition, you make your voice heard.

PS - remember that Lidl's customer service representatives have repeatedly lied. They have said that the footage is ‘years old’, that it's from ‘another country’, or that Lidl is not supplied by the company at all. The facts:

  • The farm is in Lincolnshire (listen to the farm workers' accents), and the footage was captured in 2022.
  • The farm manager is filmed saying that the chickens 'go to Lidl.'
Photos from last week show chicken from the supplier company (2 Sisters) on sale in Lidl.
  • Lidl lists 2 Sisters as a supplier in its own documents.

If you're making a call today, just explain these facts and ask what evidence Lidl has to back up its claims. You will find they have none.

Thank you,
Open Cages
