Hi, I’m Sean from The Humane League UK. Right now, honestly, I’m feeling nervous.

Why? Because we’re about to face the government in court to fight for one billion lives.

In a landmark case we’re arguing that the keeping of fast-growing 'Frankenchickens', who suffer terribly from health issues, is unlawful.

To have reached this point is momentous. Just 5% of judicial review cases reach the High Court.

On Wednesday next week, when the hearing begins, we’ll be facing up to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and all the resources wielded by such a large government body.

But we are not alone. Advocates for Animals, the UK’s first animal law firm, are representing us. The RSPCA are giving testimony in support of our case. Most importantly, I know that you are beside us.

I promise you that we are going to give this everything we’ve got. We have so many reasons to fight, because around one billion Frankenchickens are raised each year in the UK.

I can’t picture a billion chickens. That says something about the limits of the human brain. But it says more about the vast cruelty of factory farming.

I can’t picture a billion chickens, but I can picture one. An individual, with a personality. Likes. Dislikes. Feelings.

She’s the individual in the photo above. She’s called Molly. She suffers every day because suffering is coded into her DNA. She's bred to grow so fast that her legs buckle underneath her and the ammonia on the floor burns her skin. She doesn't deserve this.

This case is for her. And the one billion other souls just like her.

With hope and determination,

Sean Gifford, Managing Director of The Humane League UK, on behalf of Chris Packham

We can’t fight for animals without you. Will you donate now to support our mission to end the abuse of animals raised for food?
