Dear fellow animal lover,
The Open Wing Alliance has just released investigative footage exposing the conditions in a poultry farm in Germany supplying supermarket giant Lidl.
What did they find?
Deformed, lame and sick birds suffering in their thousands. The undercover footage reveals chickens struggling to move, panting under the weight of their own bodies and forced to lie in their own waste. Investigators witnessed birds with painful deformities and genetic conditions. Many were left to die suffering amongst other chickens.
Chicks were seen barely alive alongside rotting corpses in unsanitary conditions, creating the perfect conditions for cases of cannibalism and painful bacterial infections, while posing a serious risk to food safety.
These are just some of the findings that expose the reality of the life of a fast-growing Lidl chicken. Lidl claim they’re ‘Big on Quality’. Our investigation shows this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Despite being the fastest-growing UK supermarket, Lidl is refusing to end the suffering of millions of chickens in its supply chain. That’s why we’re joining forces with major European animal protection organisations to launch a European-wide campaign against the supermarket chain.
Over 340 companies across the UK and Europe, including Lidl France, have already pledged to stop selling suffering by adopting the Better Chicken Commitment, so there is no excuse.
Can you spare a minute to help chickens by taking these two actions?
