Thank you so much to each and every one of you for your support - over 150k signatures and counting!

Last year, we commissioned a comprehensive study of meat chickens. This trial was the first of its kind to assess the production and welfare characteristics of the breed used most extensively worldwide from each of the three globally dominant meat chicken breeding companies, and to compare these with a commercially viable slower-growing breed. The results were clear: the genetics of these conventional breeds, sold in all UK supermarkets, fail to adequately safeguard their welfare to such an extent that many could be considered as having a life not worth living.

Despite conversations with many of the UK supermarkets who all received a copy of our report, the big players have yet to fully sign up to the Better Chicken Commitment. The majority of chickens within their supply chains are from fast-growing breeds. It's clear, from our study, that fast-growing breeds suffer from poor health and welfare due to their genetics and supermarkets know this.

Sadly, in a market that is fast becoming ethically conscious, supermarkets are lagging behind.

Thank you
