Let’s get the landlords to appear before the House of Commons HUMA* Committee Review regarding financialization, rent-gouging, renovictions and related issues! Let’s distribute flyers/posters in our communities and in our apartment/rental buildings to obtain as many signatures as possible on the petition. ALL Levels of government need to IMMEDIATELY address the growing housing EMERGENCY in Calgary, across Alberta and across Canada.
The CHANGE.ORG petition Require landlords to appear at House of Commons Review of Financialization & Rent Gouging echoes the request of Marie-Josée Houle, Federal Housing Advocate before the House of Commons HUMA Committee Review regarding financialization, rent gouging & related issues on May 9, 2023 - as is referred to in the CHANGE.ORG petition.
This occurs at a time that landlords are rent gouging tenants – increasing rental payments far in excess of the landlords’ inflationary operating cost increases – as is also referred to in the petition.
*HUMA: House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

I made several Recommendations – including: declare a housing EMERGENCY in Calgary and across Canada; implement a NATIONAL RENT FREEZE and EVICTION FREEZE as well as LOWER RENTS to address rent gouging by landlords; and provide rental supplements to renters to address rent gouging – including as per the Homeless Prevention and Housing Benefit (HPHB) by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.
