Suffolk County Vector control has for the second week in a row decided not to spray the chemical methoprene in Accabonac Harbor thanks to a stepped up mosquito larvae testing and monitoring program initiated by The Nature Conservancy, Legislator Bridget Fleming, the East Hampton Town Trustees, and Suffolk County Vector Control itself. This is VERY GOOD NEWS. Thank you to all involved in this largely volunteer effort to reduce methoprene applications in Accabonac as a means to control mosquitoes. While we who initiated this petition believe that methoprene use should be banned altogether, these steps to reduce its use are heartily applauded. We urge all petition signatories to send a congratulatory note to Legislator Fleming, the TNC's Kevin McDonald, the Town Trustees, and Suffolk County Vector Control, thanking them for their efforts. This could be the first step toward an eventual total ban. Email addresses below: bridget.fleming@suffolkcountyny.gov kmcdonald@TNC.ORG Town Trustee Susan McGraw Keber: susan4ehtrustee@gmail.com
