Oppose WA Government decision to double vac swim fees
The issue
It has been reported that fees for a 10-day vacation swim program will increase from $13.50 to $30, or $20 for families with a concession card. Read the article
Low vacation swimming fees were originally introduced in 2004 to address declining numbers of young people enrolled in vacation swimming. Read the 2004 media statement
For Australian children, drowning is a leading cause of preventable death. There is clear evidence that participation in swimming classes reduces the risk of child drowning. The decision to substantially increase fees is bad for public health.
We urge the State Government to reverse its decision to increase vacation swimming fees.
