Compile Sublime Text 3 for ARM

Compile Sublime Text 3 for ARM

The Issue

ARM is an increasingly popular CPU Architecture

* ARM powers virtually every smartphone in the world
* Hundreds of thousands of people have installed Linux on their Android devices from the google play store alone (indicating the desire to run desktop applications on their phones and tablets)
* Android smartphones and tablets easily connect to full size, Full HD displays via MHL to HDMI cables, and use keyboards and mice via Bluetooth or USB.
* Small and cheap ARM computers are exploding in popularity, RaspberryPi, Beaglebone black and many other clones.
* The youth of today who use cheap ARM based computers and mobile devices are the next generation software developers.
* With the rising popularity of the cloud and ARM CPUs, thin clients are coming back... all a dev needs is Sublime Text, GIT, and a web browser.
* Popular Linux distros now offer ARM support.
* Even windows is available for ARM now.

What will happen if Sublime Text doesn't compile for ARM?

By not compiling for ARM they have been pushing their users away. We are having to try alternative code editors. Once we try those code editors and learn to use them, we may find advantages over ST and stop using ST on the desktop as well. Plus the knock on effect of devs recommending their editor to others.

What would it take for Sublime Text to compile for ARM?

We can't say for sure, because it's closed source, but it should be very easy. Almost every x64 Linux GUI program can and has been compiled for ARM.
When I had never compiled a Linux program in my life, the other day I compiled Hexchat for ARM, it took me 15 minutes to figure it out and solve the issues.

Just do it

It will be easy, you'll make more money... At least TRY it!? How about a 3 or 6 month trial of ARM builds?
