This creates a chilling effect, discouraging individuals from speaking out and further undermining the principles of justice and fairness.

Why This Matters:

●      Transparency and accountability are the bedrock of a just and equitable correctional system. The IDOC must be held to the highest standards of accuracy and fairness in its record-keeping and sentence calculations.

●      Every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Administrative errors can have devastating consequences, including prolonged incarceration and missed opportunities for rehabilitation.

●      A fair and transparent system benefits everyone. By ensuring that sentences are calculated accurately and that individuals have access to the resources they need to succeed, we can reduce recidivism rates and create a safer, more just society for all.
