Stop the closure of the Durham Pret a Manger on Silver Street!

Durham is losing yet another retail establishment on Silver Street, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the student and local economy, and in the hearts of many a diligent coffee lover. Pret is more than just a coffee shop; it is a pseudo-library, a study space for many who want for a yummy beverage alongside their laptops and revision notes, and a relaxing environment for those who want good food and a catch up with friends. Not to mention, it's the cheapest coffee around - at 99p (and 89p for students) for a filter coffee, Pret is arguably the most affordable of take-out coffees, a staple of any modern day diet. After the loss of M and S, it is clear that Durham is experiencing a mass-exodus of retail giants, and for what reason? Having spent much time in both the aforementioned and Pret, I find it hard to believe they lack the business required to continue their branches. A very popular, much loved fixture of modern Durham, it will be a huge loss to both residents and students alike whose go-to place of studying/relaxing/enjoying quick and delicious food will be swiftly removed from existence to a chorus of breaking hearts.
