The petition "Revert the massive increase in semester fee at FAST - NUCES for 2018-2019" that was uploaded less than 24 hours ago, has received a tremendous response from students of all batches, with signatures exceeding 3000. The issue of the fee increase however, is not exclusive for the Lahore Campus of FAST-National University. We have received messages, calls and support from many students from the Islamabad, Faisalabad and Karachi campuses of FAST, whose fee shall be increased with the same scale. We feel it is a common concern for students, and as such, this petition should be addressed to the offices where these policies are formed. Therefore, we call on the respected Chancellor and President of the Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Technology(FAST), Mr. Wasim Sajjad, the Secretary General Rana Ghulam Shabbir, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Rector Dr. Ayub Alvi, and respected Board Members, Justice Mian Muhammad Ajmal, Mr. Nisar A. Memon, Mr. Rashid A. Khan, Dr. M. Latif Virk Mr. Ahmed Farooq and Chairman HEC to look into this matter with due consideration of students' concerns. The proposed fee increments put many students in a difficult position, considering FAST has a diverse student body, with many students with low-income backgrounds. An increase in the fees also means that lesser students shall be able to opt for scholarships like OSAF and PEEF. Students who work part-time jobs to pay their dues, shall be put in a difficult position. Further, students who have opted for student loans shall have to spend much more time to pay back their loans. It is requested that the Board of Governors, the Chancellor and the concerned departments revisit the planned Fee for the upcoming academic year 2018-2019.
