The Educate Don't Discriminate team were glad to receive the positive news this morning that Citipointe Christian College has retracted their amended enrolment contract! This is the first step to ensuring that our schools remain a safe space for all LGBTQI+ students.
Unfortunately the actions of Citipointe Christian College are indicative of a much broader issue.
We appreciate the love and support that we have received from the community, with our petition reaching over 150,000 signatures in just a matter of days. We couldn’t have done this without you.
There are currently bills circulating parliament that aim to allow religious institutions to make decisions and statements around sexuality and gender identity that do not uphold the dignity and respect of LGBTQI+ people.

Whilst many may be celebrating today, the reality is that Citipointe has made it clear that although it is no longer written in the contract, their view on the matter remains fundamentally the same. Many students across the nation will be scared to return to school on Monday. This contract has traumatised students, parents and the community, and we recognise that there is a lot of work to do in supporting these people.
Organisations that support the actions of Citipointe Christian College will no doubt be lobbying over the coming weeks given this result. Let's remain strong and remind each other that we are all loved equally amongst our community. We will need your support to ensure these bills in parliament do not discriminate against societies most vulnerable.
Once again, THANK YOU for your support. We never expected this petition to get as big as it did. Seeing so many Australians stand with young LGBTQI+ people means a great deal to us all.
Love,
The Educate Don't Discriminate team.
