Dear signatories,
Thank you all for signing.
I have spoken with the Course Director of the MD at UWA and it has been agreed that some changes are likely to be made to the course to make it more inclusive LGBTQI people. UWA staff have been very helpful and receptive to the issues raised in this petition.
I would also like to make sure that all who have signed this petition are aware that whilst I was unaware of LGBTQI content in the curriculum at the time of writing this letter, there are some classes that mention LGBTQI people. My misunderstanding comes from the fact the LGBTQI health is not raised It has come to my attention that my petition implies a total neglect of LGBTQI issues, whereas I wished to indicate a significant under representation.
UWA does not fail to integrate LGBTQI people as fully as we deserve intentionally, so much as through limited time within the course, and reduced staff consciousness surrounding LGBTQI issues.
This petition will hopefully work to bring LGBTQI people closer to the fore in the minds of MD teaching staff, and the future medical professionals that they teach.
Thank you to all who have signed, this is a great success for we LGBTQI people, and for the Medical Profession.
