Last week I e-mailed the COO, Noah Goldman, in regards to this petition. His response this morning: Hi Abby- Thanks for your email. While I can appreciate that the spirit of Burning Man is different than other events, I don’t see a path to us creating a set price for Burning Man tickets. We don’t own any of the tickets or set their prices. If there are willing tickets sellers and willing buyers, there will be a market and prices move accordingly. Consumers are better off if there is price transparency and a safe marketplace for those transactions to take place. Trying to fix prices also just sends the transactions somewhere else. Keep in mind that the tickets you see posted for high prices are the ones that have not sold. Sellers can ask whatever they want for a ticket, but that does not mean they will sell. Thanks, Noah ****** I will be sending a response letter this evening attaching both articles: http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/burning-man-sold-out-in-under-an-hour-and-people-are-pissed/?fb_action_ids=10153053701024351&fb_action_types=og.comments http://www.wired.com/2015/02/hacking-burning-man-tickets/ Noah mentioned (and with no hesitation), "trying to fix prices sends the transactions somewhere else". Clearly StubHub holds monitary gain higher than the "spirit" of burning man...which is typical ! The bright side is that a bulk of the tickets on StubHub will be cancelled (due to them being hacked). This does raise concern, however, since some of those tickets that are potentially being cancelled were already purchased by Burners. I do not know the logistics around how the BM organization plans to cancel tickets that were hacked, especially that are in the hands of new ticket buyers.....all we can do as supporters of this petition, is to continue to spread awareness so that people DO NOT purchase tickets through StubHub! Even though they have no interest in supporting this event, at least we know they aren't making a profit on hacked tickets! Thank you for sharing, caring and showing love around this petition. Hope everyone had an epic Monday! <3 -Abby
