I am writing as a concerned American citizen and supporter of David Vallejos, who is courageously fighting pro se in the federal case Vallejos v. Rob Bonta and Chad Bianco, a challenge to California’s unconstitutional concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit scheme.
This case strikes at the heart of what it means to be a free citizen in the United States. California's CCW process is not only overly burdensome and expensive—it is designed to deny law-abiding citizens their constitutional right to self-defense. Even individuals like Mr. Vallejos—who holds a federal firearms license, an out-of-state CCW, and has passed all background checks—are still denied their right under the Second Amendment.
Worse, a memo circulated among California law enforcement in 2022 gave instructions on how to circumvent the Supreme Court’s decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen, demonstrating that state and local officials are openly working to nullify the ruling and infringe on our rights.
We urge you to review this important case and consider deploying President Trump’s Second Amendment Task Force to assist Mr. Vallejos. He is taking on this legal battle alone—for the benefit of millions of Californians and Americans who could one day face similar abuses in other states.
