I wanted to take the time to thank those of you who have already signed the petition in Harrison Kowiak's name. My purpose in initiating this bill is to ensure that students can be safe from the dangerous acts and the physical and emotional abuse that is caused by hazing. No one should be subjected to any harm in order to belong to an organization. Sadly, nothing will bring my beautiful son back, Harrison Kowiak (1989-2008). He was only 19 years old, attended college on an academic and golf scholarship, and his life was taken away at the age of 19, all due to senseless hazing.
If I can keep others safe from hazing and put a spotlight on the dangers of hazing, then it is time and resources well spent. No parent should ever send their child off to college and not have them come home.
Since I launched the Harrison Kowiak Anti Hazing Bill Petition 6 months ago, over 28,000 of you have supported and signed this petition. You have all exceeded what I thought was a difficult goal yet by signing the petition, it's clear to see we ALL want to get rid of hazing!
It would mean so much to me if you would share this petition with your friends and family. You can forward the QR Code or share the link to sign the petition in support of this bill for the students of North Carolina. TOGETHER, we can double the number of signatures on this bill by June 1, 2023. Please share this petition on your social media - in and outside the state of North Carolina. There is strength in numbers and our voice will show the legislators of North Carolina that there is no place for hazing. A slap on the wrist will not stop individuals from hazing. The laws need to be tougher to deter individuals from hazing.
Thank you for your support and thank you in advance for spreading this petition to your social media network.
Lianne Kowiak, Harrison's mom
