Petition Update: Standing Together for National Amber Alert Reform

Over the past year, Darius's Law has helped bring the conversation around Canada's outdated Amber Alert criteria into the national spotlight. Today, I want to share an important update.

I have accepted an advisory role with the advocacy team behind Indigo Alert, joining forces to continue pushing for meaningful national reform.

While Indigo Alert focuses on protecting children with Autism, Darius's Law has always sought broader protections for all vulnerable persons. Our policy objective remains exactly the same: give police the discretion to issue an Amber Alert based on credible risk and vulnerability—without requiring proof of a confirmed abduction.

Canada's Amber Alert framework remains among the most restrictive in the developed world. Countries such as the United States, Mexico, Australia, and many jurisdictions across Europe already provide law enforcement with greater flexibility to act quickly when a vulnerable person disappears under suspicious or high-risk circumstances. We believe Canada should do the same.

The recent tragedy of Parker Wells has only reinforced the urgent need to close this gap. Until police are given the authority to act before it is too late, we fear these heartbreaking cases will continue to happen.

Although different advocacy groups may propose different names—whether it's Indigo Alert, Parker Alert, Parker Project or Darius's Law, or something else entirely—the name is not what matters.

What matters is preventing the next tragedy.

Darius's Law will continue to advocate for the same core reforms we have championed from the beginning: empowering police with the discretion to issue an Amber Alert when vulnerability, credible risk, and the totality of the circumstances justify immediate public notification.

We are proud to stand alongside others calling for change because this issue is bigger than any one campaign. It is about protecting vulnerable people, giving families every possible chance, and ensuring no one is denied a timely alert because of an outdated legal threshold.

Together, we will continue pushing until Canada closes this gap and brings its Amber Alert system in line with international best practices.
