Thank you for signing this petition and showing your support for our students, staff and greater community! We are at over 1000 signatures in the first 72 hours! You may have seen that the school board is meeting tomorrow night and addressing restructuring with updated plans from administration. Here is the restructuring update presentation district administration will provide tomorrow: https://meetings.boardbook.org/Public/Agenda/1360?meeting=568230
CALL TO ACTION:
1) Continue to share the petition. We are working on getting exposure to a larger audience this week and more signatures equals a greater likelihood of that coverage. Please share on your page, post in groups, and send directly to your network through IM, e-mail and text message. Link available here: https://www.change.org/StopWSDRestructure
2) Provide public comment at tomorrow’s school board meeting. Public comment can be in person or written.
a. In -person public comment: The meeting is in the Longfellow Administration Building at 415 Seymour Street tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 27. You must be signed up to speak by 5 pm. Public comment is within the first few minutes of the meeting. You will be permitted up to three (3) minutes to speak. You don’t need to use the full time.
b. Written public comment: Complete this form by 3 pm tomorrow for inclusion in tomorrow’s meeting packet. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfBAa20ub6QRAOM1HRN5GuCES23AisQEe9d7EfH6BH8gbH2Eg/viewform
c. You may also e-mail the board directly. This doesn’t count as “public comment”, but direct communications are always helpful, too. Their e-mail is: toboard@wausauschools.org
Two things you can urge are: (i) motion for reconsideration; and/or (ii) special meeting to address restructuring.
i. Motion for reconsideration: Any board member who voted in support of it can make a motion for reconsideration. This includes: Bouche, Trollop, Webster, Creisher, Nikolai, Reyes and Vandenburg. (McKee and Sillars cannot make this motion because they voted against it originally). It has to be listed as an action item on the agenda, so this would have to apply at the regular meeting, assuming they agendize it as an action item.
ii. Special Meeting: Any board member can also request a special meeting to address district restructuring (this includes McKee and Sillars). Wausau School Board of Education Policy 0164.2. states: “A special meeting of the Board shall be held upon the written request of any Board member provided there is compliance with the following notice provisions and State law.”
There is time to halt implementation of this rushed plan, but we all need to do some more organizing. Please take a few minutes to help spread the word and to submit your thoughts to the board through public comment or email. You may also consider submitting a letter to the editor to Wausau Pilot and Review at: editor@wausaupilotandreview.com.
Thank you!
