Unfortunately, sharp rent hikes are forcing hardworking people out of their homes and pushing more families into homelessness.
Fixing this issue is critical because housing is a basic human right. Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to live, stay healthy, and raise their families. When corporate landlords focus only on quick profits, whole neighborhoods suffer and communities fall apart. True leadership means recognizing that keeping families in their homes is far more valuable than the painful human cost of throwing them out.
To help solve this crisis, I ask Blackstone to lower rent prices to match what local families actually earn and give tenants more time to pay if they face financial hardship. Capping rent hikes will stop families from being priced out. Additionally, giving renters a longer grace period to catch up instead of evicting them immediately will keep them safe.
