Since launching this petition, state representatives have engaged directly on the issue of rising electric bills and the growing burden of fees that are not tied to actual electricity usage. Meetings have taken place with Eversource, the Attorney General’s office, and other state officials, and legislation aimed at affordability and oversight is currently moving through the State House. This confirms what many residents already know: the problem is real, widespread, and structural.
What remains unresolved, and why this petition still matters, is fairness. Too many households are paying fees for programs they do not directly benefit from, including solar and electric vehicle related charges. A fair system should clearly distinguish between customers who participate in these programs and those who do not. Residents without solar or EVs should not permanently absorb costs unrelated to their usage and should be reimbursed or credited for those fees. Policy driven costs should be transparent, openly debated, and funded appropriately rather than hidden inside essential utility bills.
This petition continues to call for local oversight of delivery rate increases, clearer billing transparency, the removal or reimbursement of non usage based fees, and structural reform that aligns costs with actual benefit. Every signature strengthens the case that Massachusetts residents expect accountability, fairness, and relief. Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, and helped move this conversation forward.
