The Issue

Mohammad Nikbakht is more than just an Iranian political and human rights activist; he is a beacon of hope, a courageous voice for justice, and a Christian believer whose faith strengthens his commitment to truth and human dignity.

On March 14, 2026 (24 Esfand), his life took a dangerous turn. In a shocking display of force, approximately 200–300 armed agents of Iran’s intelligence and security forces violently raided his home. In front of his terrified family, Mohammad was brutally beaten, arrested, and forcibly taken away. He has since been transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan — a facility widely known for torture, inhumane treatment, and denial of basic rights.

Mohammad now faces an immediate and serious threat to his life.

A Target for His Beliefs and Courage

Mohammad’s story is one of resilience and bravery. Despite repeated threats, he has consistently stood for those without a voice in Iran — speaking out against oppression, injustice, and human rights violations.

As a convert to Christianity, he also belongs to a persecuted religious minority. In Iran, Christian converts are frequently targeted, harassed, imprisoned, and subjected to severe punishment simply for their beliefs. Mohammad’s faith, combined with his activism, makes him especially vulnerable.

This is not the first time he has been targeted. He has previously been arrested, imprisoned, and tortured. In a chilling incident, he even survived an assassination attempt by regime agents, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Despite everything, he chose to continue his peaceful struggle for justice.

Grave Risk in Detention

Inside Iran’s prison system, detainees like Mohammad are exposed to some of the most severe human rights abuses:

  • Torture and Forced Confessions: Physical and psychological abuse to extract false statements
  • Incommunicado Detention: Denial of access to family and independent legal counsel
  • Religious Persecution: Punishment and discrimination due to his Christian faith
  • Sham Trials: Unfair proceedings lacking transparency and due process
  • Risk of Death: Under torture or through fabricated charges that could lead to execution

International human rights organizations have repeatedly documented Iran’s pattern of imprisoning, torturing, and executing political prisoners. Mohammad’s detention is a clear violation of international law and fundamental human rights, including freedom of belief, expression, and peaceful activism.

Without urgent global attention, Mohammad Nikbakht could become another silent victim.

Our Demands to the International Community

We call on:

  • The United Nations and its human rights bodies
  • Democratic governments worldwide
  • International human rights and religious freedom organizations

to take immediate and decisive action:

  1. Ensure His Immediate Safety
Publicly warn Iranian authorities that Mohammad Nikbakht’s life must be protected and that they will be held fully accountable for any harm.

  2. Defend Freedom of Religion and Belief
Recognize that he is being persecuted for both his activism and his Christian faith, and demand protection of his fundamental rights.

  3. Demand Transparency and Access
Ensure he has access to legal representation, family contact, and urgent medical care.

  4. Hold Perpetrators Accountable
Identify and sanction those responsible for his arrest, torture, and unlawful detention.

  5. Secure His Immediate and Unconditional Release
Demand that Mohammad Nikbakht be freed without delay.

Why It Matters

The Iranian regime relies on silence to continue its abuses. Activists and religious minorities are often targeted in isolation, away from the eyes of the world.

Mohammad Nikbakht’s name must not disappear into that silence.

Global attention can save his life.
