Spring is here and Ukraine has survived the coldest winter it had since central heating was implemented.  As I sit here in my comfortably warm house in Colorado I can only imagine what it would be like:

What if Colorado was hit with -40C day temperatures (-60C night)  for a month, while it was snowing the whole time with so many clouds that sufficient solar energy could not be generated?  And what if the natural gas delivery infrastructure failed at the same time, and refineries were shut down because it was simply too cold to separate petrol into fuel?  And I'm not even talking about paralyzed food delivery infrastructure.   What would we do?  How would we survive?

Well, if the war in Ukraine continues at least part of the world might be headed for an alike scenario.  Ukraine's resources are depleted and the resolve of the West to support it is wavering.  Enough support might be provided to continue a stalemate situation but with the energy infrastructure destroyed we really are just one cold winter away from a humanitarian crisis of WWII proportions.

Of course it's not my bottom that's on the line and neither is it of the majority of the readers of this post.  How can I possibly give the emotional charge needed to get people to care enough?  What will make you want to do the right thing?  What can push the ones that can to actually do the right thing?

What if we get a dark and cold winter for the whole month of September, for the entire planet?  In such a seemingly unlikely scenario it certainly would be way colder here in Colorado than by the Ocean coasts.  But if it gets dark enough for a long enough period of time the oceans themselves will freeze and then it's game over for anything on the surface of the Earth.

It's spring time in Ukraine but it's also the start of the clock to prepare for the next winter season.  Let us make sure no such scenario happens in Ukraine or anywhere else!
