Keep Sweetwater Lake WildGypsum, CO, United States
Sep 10, 2026

We have launched a new public-information website: savesweetwaterlake.org.

The site brings together the documents, reporting, photographs, and agency records behind this petition—including the evidence on Sweetwater Road’s single-route emergency-access problem, the August 30 road closures, and the wildlife protections Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff identified years ago.

You can also find:

  • Guidance for preparing an effective Draft EIS comment before the September 23 deadline.
  • The public records concerning raptors, elk and mule deer habitat, and CPW’s own recommendations.
  • The history of the original Save the Lake conservation campaign.
  • The Working Group’s request that Colorado Parks and Wildlife publicly own—and fully disclose—the plan it is asking the Forest Service to approve.
  • We are also raising funds for legal counsel to help the community prepare its formal Draft EIS comment and protect its position if this matter proceeds further. Contributions can be made through the new site at savesweetwaterlake.org/donate.

Please visit the site, share it with others who care about Sweetwater Lake, and keep urging decision-makers to require a real emergency-egress analysis and enforceable wildlife protections before approving development.
