It's been a busy couple of weeks around the strata insurance crisis in BC.
We've updated all of you on the provincial government's interim solutions and our response. Every strata owner we've talked to has concurred- these measures don't assist well-run stratas and offer no assurance of lower premiums.
As promised, we have been writing to and talking to elected officials at every level of government to amplify the voice of the strata owner, especially those hardest hit.
It's clear BC's elected officials, your elected officials, need to hear real stories directly from their constituents.
Strata owners need to write directly to their elected officials, regardless of political party, at all levels of government with their individual story. The strata insurance crisis has no hope of real improvement if your elected officials don't know the financial and other impacts on you.
We know the BC Financial Services Authority is going to continue stakeholder engagement over the summer, and will release a more detailed report in the Fall.
Take the time to tell your story to your elected officials and the Condominium Home Owners Association as soon as possible. Try to get a phone or video call to tell your story. It makes a big difference. If you need help let us know. We've participated in joint meetings with strata owners and their elected officials on request.
Timing is crucial as more and more renewals are coming up, and debate will begin in the legislature next week. More owners are feeling the direct impact of this unstable market.
Act as soon as you can so the voice of the strata owner can be heard.
Thanks!
